Barefoot Running Shoes

Barefoot running shoes are light, flat running shoes with a wide toe box, a zero-drop sole and a thin, flexible sole. Our running styles are the Saguaro Fast I Ultra-Light, Fast I Pro and Motion Pro. You can run in all three, but they feel very different from a cushioned running shoe, so if you're used to padded trainers, ease in slowly (see below). We deliver across South Africa.

Three Saguaro styles you can run in

  • Fast I Ultra-Light: our lightest style, at about 189 g per shoe, with a breathable mesh upper, a light EVA midsole and a rubber outsole.
  • Fast I Pro: the Fast I with an upgraded outsole for more grip, and a breathable upper. It doubles as one of our barefoot gym shoes.
  • Motion Pro: a light trainer with a grippy outsole for gym sessions, walks and easy runs.

All three close with a quick-lace drawstring, an elastic lace with a pull toggle, so there are no tie laces to come undone.

New to barefoot running? Ease in

Running in a thin, zero-drop shoe takes time to get used to, especially if you've always run in cushioned shoes. Give yourself a few weeks:

  1. Walk in them first. Wear them for everyday walking for a week or two before your first run.
  2. Start with short, easy runs. Do one short, easy run a week in them, and keep your other runs in your usual shoes.
  3. Build up slowly. Add a little distance at a time over a few weeks while your feet and calves get used to the thin sole.
  4. Start on smooth ground. Park paths, a track or smooth trails are easier places to begin than rocky ground.

Saguaro runs slightly large, so measure first

Measure your foot and check the Saguaro size chart. If you're between sizes, choose the smaller one. To try them on first, visit our Sandton showroom on a Tuesday or Thursday. We deliver across South Africa, with free delivery on orders over R1,000. Or see all our barefoot shoes.

Barefoot running shoes: your questions

Can you run in barefoot shoes?

Yes. The Fast I, Fast I Pro and Motion Pro are light, flexible shoes you can run in. They have much less cushioning than a padded running shoe, so start with short, easy runs and build up over a few weeks.

What is a zero-drop running shoe?

It's a running shoe with the heel and the front of the foot at the same height, with no raised heel. Every Saguaro shoe has a zero-drop sole.

Do you have wide toe box running shoes?

Yes. All three running styles have a wide, foot-shaped toe box, like everything in our wide toe box shoes range.

Can I run on trails in them?

On smooth trails and park paths, yes. The sole is thin, so you'll feel stones and roots underfoot.
